caption的组成部分
一个caption 通常由一下几个部分组成。
declarative title: 总结在figure中展示的数据的主要发现。
通常的caption中不会明确表示数据的主要发现而是仅说明被讨论的变量。由读者去发现结论。但是这类做法最近不太流行。
新的方式-declarative title的优势:
- 帮助读者迅速获取作者的主要思想。读者获取作者思想之后会有继续阅读的动力。
- 帮助作者建立最为有效地传达自己想法的图。（Writing in this style should also help focus the author at the construction stage, urging them to create figures that communicate their point most effectively.）
- 防止作者给出一些意图不明的图，希望读者基于该图有新的发现（highly focused captions may prevent “data-dumps”, in which the author “dumps” data they cannot make sense of in the hope that someone else can）
争议：
部分人认为这样的写法过于主观。但是其实整篇论文都有作者的主观想法（但是是可接受的）。既然文中可以表达主观的想法，为什么在图表中禁止呢。
methods: 简要地概述图中采用的方法，而不必从主要文本中寻找相关信息。
Statistical information: number of replicates, asterisks denoting P-values, statistical tests, etc.

通常,使用legend来描述图中的元素是更优的选择。
图的表达范围（Scope of a figure）
通常一张图只回答一个问题。也可以将多个独立的实验图组合在一起说明一个问题。
